Robert Brady House -- Cuernavaca

For years I had been hearing "You HAVE to see this house!"

Well I finally got there!




The Robert Brady Museum (Museo Robert Brady) is a legacy to the American artist/collector, Robert Brady, who lived in Cuernavaca from 1962 until his death in 1986.

                                                                        Born in Iowa in 1928, Robert studied fine arts at the the Art Institute of Chicago and Temple University amongst others. Before moving to Cuernavaca, he lived in Venice for five years where he was the neighbor of Peggy Guggenheim. Hmmm I wonder where he got the idea for a house museum?

The house, Casa de la Torre, is located directly behind the cathedral in the center of Cuernavaca in part of a XVI century Francisan Convent.

Robert used this amazing space as a backdrop for his eclectic and extensive collection of artwork (Rufino Tamayo, Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, Milton Avery) which is fascinating to take in.

But the thing that really grabbed my attention was his use of COLOR.

In Mexico it is very typical to see the bright hues in their full pigmentation. But Robert used the colors in such a chic and elegant way the house feels contempory even today.

New Project Preview

I recently finished a project in the Santa Fe neighborhood of Mexico City for a young couple. They wanted to warm up their rather spectacular yet uninspired apartment. Using most of their existing furniture we played with color and texture for a more cozy and contemporary look. Here is a SNEAK PEEK at the living room before and after. More pics to come shortly!
